Informed and impartial

Over the next few years, RFID technology is set to expand to all industrial, commercial and public sectors. This perspective stirs up turmoil among the suppliers of RFID related hardware and software. Facing the sheer diversity of the offer, potential clients are bound to feel puzzled: what is the best choice for a specific need? What level of investment is acceptable given the organization's productivity targets? The RFID Center's purpose precisely is to provide informed and impartial answers to such questions.

Multidisciplinary

The Icare Research Institute is specialized in the fields of information technology and communication systems. For years it has been involved in the development of state of the art services in the field of RFID technology, partnering with various universities in Switzerland and abroad. Faced with a significant increase in demand in terms of advice and assistance, it has decided to dedicate part of its resources to form a distinct specialized unit: the RFID Center.

The RFID Center's key differentiating factor resides in its ability to call upon the scientific, technical and economic expertise of a variety of partners. This unique position at the crossroads of different disciplines allows it to approach the issues faced by any organization considering an RFID deployment from a global perspective. The RFID Center's development fits into the regional economic development project "The Ark", and it is involved in research projects with the research institutes of the canton of Valais' University of Applied Sciences (Haute École Valaisanne – HEVs).

Progress-minded

The RFID Center’s mission consists in mobilizing national and international RFID expertise in order to promote the adoption of automatic identification technologies and support their deployment according to modern interoperability standards. Its approach is essentially based on a clear commitment to present and future standards, on a keen awareness of privacy issues, on an open and productive collaboration within a network of reliable partners, and on a generally progress-oriented mindset.

The RFID Center is sincerely convinced that RFID technology is headed towards very quick and significant developments in the near future. It is actively involved in this direction through its full commitment to a clear vision: a world of smart and interconnected objects – the internet of things, leading to groundbreaking improvements in terms of industrial productivity and personal quality of life.
